Barely a month after the Chinese launch, Xiaomi also announced the release of the worldwide Mi Smart Band 5 edition, as part of their 2020 line-up reveal.
While the initial announcement focused on the blood oxygen monitoring as the biggest upgrade, this time Xiaomi focused on female-friendly aspects as well (i.e. menstrual cycle tracking) and optimizing the PPG sensor.
Now, Xiaomi says that the sensor can increase the device’s 24/7 heart rate monitoring by 50%.
How is that measured?
“By offering an upgraded 24-hour sleep tracking, an all-new stress detection along with a breathing exercise function, Mi Smart Band 5 provides health insights according to your activities throughout the day.”
Should you upgrade from the Mi Band 4?
If you want a slightly bigger display and more watch faces, definitely. Mi Band 5 comes with over 177 watch faces – that’s about 100 more watch faces than its predecessor’s offering. There are also more sports that can be tracked, 11 in total.
Last but not least, there’s a new remote-control camera feature on the Mi Band 5 that lets you use the fitness band as a shutter button.
The Mi Band 5 will be available in six colors; too bad there isn’t a white option to go with the new Mi wireless earbuds!
