Oppo has revealed, via a Weibo post, that Samsung and Royole are not the only companies that have or will have foldable phones on the market. Oppo’s showed off the handset in a series of photographs posted by VP Brian Shen.
The design is not unique – it features a large OLED panel that folds in two on the outside rather than on the inside. A rather prominent bar on the side houses the cameras. This bar looks a lot like the one we’ve seen on the Huawei Mate X.
Shen makes it clear in the post that the company is not currently planning on shipping the phone, not unless they see the market actually has a demand for it. The company will, for the time being, observe the response foldable phones are getting from customers before considering a release.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Oppo will never release a foldable phone – it only means that the company is biding its time in order to release a phone that will satisfy the needs of the users.
For the time being there’s no word about the phone’s specs so we’ll have to wait and see if Oppo decides to follow up on the design this year or if it will patiently wait for the right time to release the mysterious smartphone.
