The rumor mill might be powered by speculations about a possible Kirin 1020 chipset but on the leaks front, it’s all about the Kirin 980, the successor to the powerful Kirin 970 SoC.

According to this report, Huawei will debut the Kirin 980 chipset at IFA 2018 in Berlin and, of course, we’ll be there to investigate. Until then, the leaked Kirin 980 specifications should be enough to satisfy your curiosity.

According to the latest report, the new Huawei SoC will be 2.8 GHz and will be built with 7nm process technology by TSMC, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. It’s expected to include a Cortex A77 CPU quad-core at 2.80GHz and four Cortex A 55 cores. Other rumors also say that Huawei might include its own graphics processor with it, a premiere for the company, which could be 1.5 times better than the Adreno 630 from Snapdragon 845.

The first phones that will probably be powered by Kirin 980 will be the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro.

So far, reports on the Mate 20 Pro indicate that the phone might ship with an in-display fingerprint sensor and five cameras, just like the LG V40.
