HMD Global is getting ready to unveil the new series of Nokia-branded phones of 2019 at IFA Berlin, a few weeks from now.
It also started teasing something major for next year, making us look forward to MWC 2020!
Speaking to Digital Trends, the smartphone manufacturer revealed that Nokia will make a 5G smartphone whose main selling point is being affordable.
Just how affordable?
“We see a particular opportunity for us in bringing 5G to a more affordable segment as we enter the market.
I would say affordable in relation to what’s available today.
I would love to see us at half of the price where you have 5G today,”
Juho Sarvikas, chief product officer for HMD, told Digital Trends.
Considering that a Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G goes for $1,300 and the LG V50 ThinQ 5G retails for $1000, half price would mean Nokia fans will have a 5G-enabled smartphone for anywhere between $500 to $650.
Of course, this seems to be in line with HMD Global’s strategy for Nokia: pack one or two flagship features in extremely affordable devices.
Sarvikas also told Digital Trends that HMD is in talks with US carriers to bring their upcoming smartphone to the US.
